lightweight management of 'thousands' of zones in Bind9?

although, bind9-dlz's last file release from the project was:

   2004-04-16

a little stale ...

atm, the freebsd port sys includes a bind9-dlz that installs/patches
against bind v9.2.2/9.3.2, and db42.

on 'current' sys, i've Bind 9.4.1-P1 & db46.

not clear as to the effect/wisdom of using old dlz with latest bind9/bdb.

or, if still usefule, why so stale?
