(at least some minor version of) Linux kernel 2.4 has a problem that
can confuse autoconf as if it supported epoll while it actually
doesn't.  This will be fixed in the next beta (or RC), although it
means performance may not be as good as one would expect for the beta
versions due to the lack of the scalable API.  (Those who currently
don't have performance issue in P1 versions should be fine).
