Dnstap can log queries between the authority and the recursive, and 
between the recursive and the client; and both queries and responses. At 
least for my use cases I haven't found it necessary to log everything, all 
the time. Obviously if you don't log it, you won't find it.

Something may have changed, but my expectation is that +norecurse to a 
recursive returns what's already in cache without triggering any upstream 
queries to authoritatives.
