I think tools can have a stronger influence on workflow than people
realize.  Even with the best intentions in the world, if a tool makes
code reviews more difficult, then engineers will do fewer code reviews.

I absolutely agree.  In sending out those links, I wasn't trying to make a
specific recommendation; I just wanted everyone to see what I was talking
about on the phone call--i.e., that other projects using svn have encountered
some of the same workflow issues we have, and have found DVCS tools to be
helpful.

Essentially I just wanted to find out whether the team is receptive to the
idea of changing tools.  It seems as if we all are, so I'll do some further
research (and I invite others to do the same, if they're interested and
time permits).  I'm going to install hg and git and experiment with them
over the next week, and make a proposal at the face-to-face, either to keep
svn or to switch.
