Hello all,
I would like feedback from the subscribers of the BIND 10 developers'
list. There are over 100 subscribers right now, and I want to try to
keep it useful to all of you.
Recently the BIND 10 development team has switched to a Scrum model for
our work. The Wikipedia article explains the general ideas:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_%28development%29
E-mail is a part of our planning and tracking. In Scrum, this means
relatively frequent discussion of product features, tasks, status, and
so on.
We have a closed list for team members, that was originally intended
only for things like letting each other know when we are on vacation, or
when we are co-ordinating travel to/from meetings. These things are not
appropriate - or interesting - for the general public.
So, the question is:
Should we post day to day planning and status mails to the
bind10-dev list?
Arguments that we SHOULD do this are that it insures maximum openness,
and people can follow what is going on fully if they want. It also makes
it easier on the team because they don't have to worry about picking the
correct forum.
Arguments that we SHOULD NOT do this are that it will be a lot of noise
that is ultimately uninteresting to people not involved with the work,
and that it will be a distraction from the important issues.
It is also possible that we collect these status type mails and provide
them in digest format of some kind, to make it easier to filter and
reduce the numbers of mails.
We discussed it in the team, and I think that the general feeling was
that we should use bind10-dev, although this was not a strong consensus.
Before any decision is made, I thought the best thing to do would be to
ask the people most affected - you, the reader! :)
Please let us know what you think.
Thanks,
--
Shane
