If we do this, I'd suggest we merge it with the outstanding ticket I
committed a while ago (#324) that updates the records table schema to have
slightly more efficient indexes.

I haven't nagged anyone about reviewing and merging that one for two
reasons: 1) it only improves the performance of very large zones so it
seemed low-priority, and 2) the same reason you brought up in your
mail--not sure when to do the upgrade.  I wrote code that will
automatically fix the schema whenever the database is opened, but
that doesn't seem quite right.

I'm not sure how best to solve the problem, I'm just saying once we've
figured out how to change the schema, let's change it for this and for
#324 at the same time.
