It might be useful to look at
* http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-dnsop-name-server-management-reqs-04
* http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-dickinson-dnsop-nameserver-control-01
The former concerns the generalised requirements for managing nameservers, and the latter is a first attempt at developing a nameserver control protocol (NSCP). Part of NSCP development involves trying to group nameserver control parameters in a coherent way. It might suggest some ideas; conversely, if you have any suggestions, please feed them back to the document's authors.
