Well why do we stick to 80 columns for the code? Punch cards haven't
been around for quite a few years! :)

There are at least 3 reasons for having build scripts. In order of
importance:

1) build and test automation
2) release builds
3) so that the person who wants to build from source can do it without
having to understand how to use the GUI.
