[bind10-dev] Tracking feature progress

All,
It is a bit of a long-standing problem that it is hard for people not
deeply involved with the BIND 10 project to know what the status of
various features is.
We have had a field added for some months now that allows us to specify
which feature depends on a ticket, but we have not used it very much. I
think we need to actually use it, as it can give us a lot in that
direction.
I've gone through the tickets for the current sprint and in those
proposed for the next sprint, and set which feature depend on each. With
that, we can do a Trac query to find all related tickets. For example,
to see what work we have planned for NSEC3, you can do a query like
this:
http://bind10.isc.org/query?feature=~NSEC3&group=status&col=id&col=summary&col=owner&col=type&col=priority&col=milestone&col=component&col=resolution&order=priority
http://tinyurl.com/bind10-nsec3-tickets [same URL, but shortened]
Using this sort of data, we should be able to put together various
summary pages on the Wiki so people can see at a glance what features
are being developed and what the status of each is. At least, that's the
idea!
Note that we won't always have a full picture. For example, we're still
working out the DDNS tickets so that looks a bit empty:
http://bind10.isc.org/query?feature=~ddns&group=status&col=id&col=summary&col=owner&col=type&col=priority&col=milestone&col=component&col=resolution&order=priority
http://tinyurl.com/bind10-ddns-tickets [same URL, but shortened]
Hopefully this will provide some helpful visibility both to people
working on the software and everyone else.
Cheers,
--
