The idea behind the cryptolink in the first place was to not tie
ourselves too much to one implementation (or even type of backend,
especially with pkcs#11 in mind).

If other systems differentiate between these two types of calls, I
think we'll need to support that (even if they'd call the same
function for the current backend)
