Repeating just for those not available in the call yesterday. This might be a
good idea, but we should prefer the OS-installed version (and fallback to the
bundled one). I know some distributions patch their software because they have

I don't know. I think the python bindings do sound nice for people who want to
experiment. I guess there'll be a lot of people that want to try something small
and C++ is needlessly heavy-weight for that.

And similar for the logging framework? We did experiment with some other library
at the beginning (and we actually had the bindings written) and backed off
because it didn't work on some systems. Could we provide an option to pick one
of them on the systems that have both? (I know gentoo had the other one, but I
had to install log4cplus by hand).

That doesn't sound very easy. But I don't know how annoying this is to people,
since I use python3 for several years already.
