As discussed during phone call, we will do the alpha release as
scheduled -- Thursday September 27.

Please do a short master freeze at around 16:00 UTC on Wednesday,
September 26 for a couple hours (to give time for some builders) and I
will do the branch toward this alpha only. If you need more time for any
merges, please let me know. I can hold off for a short time or I can
merge in your changes if required into my branch.

I plan on making a permanent branch for the final release starting with
the upcoming beta (within about 7 weeks). There will be lots of work
after that to do handle pullup requests. I will be seeking a volunteer
or assignment of a developer (or two) to help handle these merges. As an
alternative, we could consider just staying with master until the
release candidate. But this may be good practice for quality control.

I would also like a volunteer or an assignment of a developer to assist
with the beta and later releases which includes following checklists and
also providing feedback and suggestions toward improving this process.

For my initial alpha announcement (release notes), I'd like to list
about any expected changes or known significant bugs to be fixed and the
significant features to be added for the upcoming beta. Do we have a
wiki page for this yet? Or can you please just let me know what is
expected before middle of Wednesday?
