As I explained the important things are:

 - there is a 'boot-time' like value in the stats so it is easy to
  discriminate the instance of the stat producer (BTW it is even more
  trivial you need something to discriminate between two different
  boxes :-).

 - if it is impossible to get the counter to wrap more than once between
  two collections (boot can be considered as a collection) then it is safe.

So you check the first point is done and you apply the second to see
what minimum counter size is required. Of course you need the delay
between two collections but IMHO after a reasonable value (a month?
a year?) stat counter wrapping doesn't really matter...
