Comment:

 4 * sigma is fine.  During the merge though could you replace the line:
 {{{
 double mu1 = repeats * 0.7347;
 }}}
 with
 {{{
 double mu1 = repeats * p1;
 }}}
 (as 0.7347 is just the value of p1 calculated three of lines earlier), and
 do the the similar replacement in the expressions for mu2 and mu3.
