 See commit 90b94ac6bc56985107d79ada95bfaa3753d6f76c of trac817a for
 prototype implementation.  But this is quite incomplete.  We should
 consider various corner cases as we did for the in memory data source.

 (but the actual implementation doesn't have to stick to the way that
 the prototype does)

 This task depends on #1060, #1061, #1062 (but can be done in parallel
 with other find() support tasks).
