Comment:

 Events appear to have overtaken this task; The additional breakdown grew
 out of group discussions and working on other tickets, so I'm closing this
 one. There may be additional pieces of work left (for instance high-level
 documentation, on which i'll add a new ticket, and things we encounter
 while finishing the rest, but tickets for those will be added at that
 time)
