 trac2097 is ready for review.

 It uses one feature of trac2096, which needed some update, so this
 branch first merged trac2096 (0019f64) and made one fix to it
 (ba9f685).  My plan is to discuss ba9f685 in #2096, so please ignore
 this commit for the review of this branch.  And this branch should be
 reasonably reviewable without waiting for the completion of #2096.

 Essentially, what should be reviewed is the newly introduced files:
 rdataset.h, rdataset.cc, rdataset_unittest.cc.

 I made one other unrelated editorial fix (f4833d5), which should be
 trivial.
