 that second point does sound like something that should be handled
 natively by the rollover code in log4cplus. If your description is
 correct, it should also be something that is reproducable by a test.
 Perhaps we should write that and take it up with the log4cplus devs.

 I also think that fixing 2 correctly should solve 1.
