 Okay, I've looked into it more closely, and found it pretty
 straightforward: we could simply use some part of the xfrin code
 for both xfrin and ddns.  It can be done via some straightforward
 refactoring.

 I've implemented this approach in the trac1978-2 branch and pushed it.

 I took a bit lazy approach, though: rather than trying to port the
 tests in xfrin to the extracted module, I've simply kept it in xfrin.
 Coverage-wise it should be the same, and I expect this stuff to be
 deprecated pretty soon anyway as we migrate to the new datasrc config
 framework.

 I'm now moving this ticket to the review queue.
