 As a result of #1751, each auth instance uses its own PID for addressing
 itself so that stats would identify one of multiple auth instances. But
 that way is a short-term narrow solution as discussed in
 [comment:ticket:1751:10]

 Furthermore we need a long-term wide solution, not only between auth and
 stats, for addressing multiple instances.
