Comment:

 It should be ready for review. There's one small hack in a select
 statement, but it is commented, so it should be OK.

 I don't think this needs a changelog entry, because the API is not changed
 and the code is not used by anything yet.

 Note that the code is in branch `trac1760_2` (I did some rebase and I
 didn't want to force-push it, so I created a new branch instead).
