 I don't oppose migrating from one version of configuration to other, but I
 must say I don't like this approach.

 The generation ID is some kind of metadata. I don't want to show such
 things to users or allow them tweaking that. We could create some kind of
 „invisible“ configuration items, but it still looks little bit broken to
 me.
