 There is currently no way to pass parameters to hook libraries, so libs
 must use their own configuration routines or hardcode parameters. Both are
 bad.

 It is likely that the hooks configuration will be extended with a
 collection of generic name=value parameters that will be passed to the
 hooks load() function.
