 trac2438 is ready for review.

 Part of this branch has been accidentally merged to master with
 other branch (my error), which makes it difficult to create a
 clean branch for review.  At least it's beyond my git literacy.

 Anyway, this branch is a branch of a snapshot of trac2435, and
 essentially consists of two sets of diffs:
 - git diff 37a8e16..738540c
 - git diff c846c54..1ba7dea

 The first one is already in master but hasn't been reviewed and should
 be reviewed in this task.

 There are some tricky points in the implementation due to multi-module
 relationships and implementing Python inheritance in the C++ wrapper.
 But I think it's not too difficult to understand.  I tried to explain
 non trivial points in comments.  Hopefully these help.
