Comment:

 The code looks fine to me; I made a few editorial changes, but I think it
 can be merged.

 Regarding the -v todo; I think it depends what we want to do with all the
 -v's, for me it can be useful to have a quick command-line option to set
 logging to DEBUG, but we should decide on this as a team and do it
 consistently then (and hence I think it's out of scope for this ticket)
