 I think this is something we should fix in `ModuleCCSession` more
 fundamentally
 (making the mixture of blocking/noblocking operation work more
 intuitively).
 Depending on its difficulty and the urgency of the proposed change, a
 workaround
 may be justified, but I don't fully understand the entire issue to be sure
 yet.
