 I run the build on the following systems (to make sure that there are no
 linking issues):
 - Free, Net, Open BSDs
 - Fedora 18
 - Ubuntu 11.10
 - Debian6
 - Centos 5.3

 and the build was successful.

 I haven't tested this on Solaris.

 Changes are ok and can be merged.
