 I think the python was built with 2-byte Unicode characters, but the
 module was probably compiled using a Python with 4-byte Unicode
 characters.  Maybe need to distclean after upgrading Python (If that
 works, then maybe this ticket can be closed), or get the python
 reconfigured and reinstalled.
