Comment (by vorner):

 The c) won't work. The compiled python modules (the wrappers) really may
 need to recompile them. I'm not sure if python keeps ABI compatibility for
 the compiled .so modules. Still, if so, many systems have them in
 different paths depending on the python version.

 I agree with the error messages.
