 Some dependencies do not provide any config script to identify itself. So
 you may have to see if some files exist that don't exist in different
 versions. Or may have to look inside some files (using awk or sed or grep)
 to look for some identifying characteristics like some version number or
 some macro or variable name that does not exist in other versions.

 This is a trial and error task that may have false results with different
 combinations of dependencies or because packagers may provide some
 incomplete patched versions that end up getting misidentified.

 We should probably tell the upstreams to provide an easy way to identify a
 version.
