I looked into this, and if you build Python from source on Ubuntu, readline isn't included by default. I'll figure out how to make this work and update my build notes on the bind10 Wiki.

With regard to ticket 677, I agree that configure should warn when the python readline module isn't installed. I don't see the utility of issuing a warning on each execution of bindctl. This is a problem that one would want to know about during bind10 installation, and choose to either fix it or ignore it prior to putting bind10 into operation.
