dhcpctl_object_remove for host object

My code creates a host object with ip-addr, dhcp-client-id values and adds it to the dhcp server entry using dhcpctl_open_object(... | DHCPCTL_CREATE.. )
The entry shows up in /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases. However when I try to delete the object using dhcpctl_object_remove and wait using dhcpctl_wait_for_completion I get an error saying object not found. 
How can I delete the host entry using dhcpctl ? I have searched the mailing list archives but couldn't find a conclusive answer for this.
