for the same purpose I use dhcpcd-test. I guess this is suse specific. I
do use SLES10. But that does not matter if you use rpms.
Use this
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.0/standard/i586/dhcpcd-3.2.3-6.1.i586.rpm
this dhcpcd-test does not affect your existing network configuration
too.
