[PATCH] - Drop net-tools and old kernels on Linux

Hello all.  We've had a patch floating around LFS for quite a while to 
ditch the dependency on net-tools (ifconfig and route) instead using 
only ip.  A link to the patch is below.  I believe it would be a welcome 
change for most of the Linux distros out there.

I also need to hack up a quick patch for a client-only installation (for 
internal use) when I have a little more time.  Of course, this is more 
for the source-build crowd as opposed to packagers, but if you are 
interested in including it, I'll send it in when I get around to 
figuring out the automagic for it.

Wow...also one of our community members just popped on list with a 
different patch for that script (based off of a previous version of the 
one above).  Looks to be a little more intrusive, but I'm not sure I can 
devise a need to test all of the changes that he's added.  Here is the
