I don't know if there's a limit, but we run >8,000 static mappings on v3 
without any trouble:

   127 subnet(s) read.
   26 range(s) read.
   8297 host(s) read.

   127 subnet(s): 26 range(s) and 9246 host(s) (9119 static, 127 dynamic)
   written.
   (0 error(s), 0 warning(s).)

[Output from our build script - the discrepancy between hosts read and 
hosts written is because a multihomed host is read once but written 
multiple times.]
