Further to this, there's a few threads on the Retrospect forums 
(http://forums.dantz.com), in particular this one :

where the poster has essentially the same problem - a network admin 
that isn't prepared to fix their network because they a) don't fully 
understand networking, and b) aren't prepared to see that there is a 
problem.
