Can PPTP client request the DHCPINFO via the PPP interface(s)?

Hi Matt,

You are right, the pptp client gets the address from
the pptp server not the DHCPd. But the pptp client
also try to get other info like the DNS info from the
dhcp server. I saw the DHCPINFO request from the
sniffer, it seems the dhcpd doesn't receive the
request.

Thank you for your reply!

Most PPP servers do not, in fact, backend to DHCP in
order to give out
addresses - they use their own protocol called IPCP to
provide the
needed info to clients.

Are you 100% sure your PPP server is backending to
DHCP - as such
functionality is not particularly common, and the
indication that you
say nothing in DHCPd.log is further evidence of that.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have the ISC-DHCPd and PPTPd running on my Linux
machine. After the PPTP client (Windows PC)
successfully connect to it, I found the
"connection-specific DNS Suffix:" information is not
filled in if I type "ipconfig" on PC's CMD prompt.
