What kinda switches do you have the client / server plugged into ?
Since they are are on the same subnet.. does that subnet interface have secondary interface ?

Do you have snooping enabled ?

Reason i ask.. I had a PHANTOM issue like this.. it was a switch issue.

Hi ,

I am using Colinux(Debian) on my system.
Running the dhclient3 from the colinux prompt.
Runnning a dhcp server (192.168.0.8) on windows (Same machine)

  1) It initially sends DHCPREUEST messages and then sends DHCPDISCOVER on eth0.
Any idea why this is happening and what settings need to be changed to get it to send DHCPDISCOVER messages.

  2) I have a DHCP server running which is receving this DHCPDISCOVER message. I am able to send the DHCPOFFER message (broadcast) . Looks like this message does not reach the client. But I can see the Offer message on Network Packet Analyser.

  3) Throws message after having send the discover message :
  SIOCSIFNETMASK: Canot assign requested address
  SIOCSIFBRADDR: Cannot assign requested adress

  4) The dhclient on colinux then tries to ping on the server address and fails saying : " Network is unreachable " Ping wrote to 192.168.0.8 which is the IP address of DHCP server which I am running on my windows.

Looks like it is the problem with netmask (255.255.255.0) and broad cast address (255.255.255.255), Router - 192.168.0.1

  Any suggestions any body.

  Thanks in advance
