The main reason I agreed to do the book (I can't speak for Ralph  
here) was because I felt like people needed better answers to their  
questions.   It's worked out well for me in a variety of ways, but  
money for book sales wasn't one of them, so I really doubt that the  
effort of collecting on the ad revenue would have been worth it for  
ISC.   Personally I think of it as a public service.
