This is what we use without issue:

ddns-update-style interim;
ddns-updates on;
ddns-ttl 300;
# ministry-of-silly-walks.its.iastate.edu 00:80:47:3d:a7:a7 john
host 0080473da7a7 {
	hardware ethernet 00:80:47:3d:a7:a7;
	ddns-hostname "ministry-of-silly-walks";
	ddns-domainname "its.iastate.edu";
	option domain-name "its.iastate.edu";

Hope this helps,
