ctrace.c error

running 3.1.2b1 getting a:

ctrace.c(168): trace_write_packet: short write (31:596)

on the slave server of a failover pair every so often, then dhcpd drops out... running under CentOS 5.2... looking for any suggestions on how to troubleshoot it... i see it's the trace_inpacket_stash function is called in options.c, but not sure what's actually going on at that point, and what the TRACING is that has to be defined for this all to be called anyway...
