Performance Monitoring on dhcpd

Hi,

I'm looking at our dhcpd infrastructure, and would like to instrument
some monitoring.  I'd like to collect some latency metrics for dhcp
transactions.  Like, how long are REQUEST/ACK transactions taking?
What about REQ/OFFER/ACK transactions?

I'm thinking I can parse dhcp logs to get this data.  But is there a
better way?  How do the developers benchmark the performance of the
server during normal runtime?
