failover peer between 4.1 and 4.2.4

So, given the problem I had earlier in the week, I'm considering
moving to 4.2.4 [the newest package on Ubuntu 12.10]

Can I move a single server to 4.2.4 - resync the peers and move the
other 4.1 server to 4.2.4 and sync again to finalize the move?

[i.e. Will peering work properly between 4.1 and 4.2.x - provided I'm
not using 4.2 specific features like rewind, and auto-partner-down?]
