using of DHCP Failover Protocol

Lots of people seem to use it in production. I do, but I have never had a failover event aside from ones I simulated. It seemed to work OK when I broke things deliberately. If it ever really broke, I've no idea if it will failover correctly. If not, it'll take 5 mins to disable failover on another server and issue address space from that half of the subnet. There will be address changes when renews come in, but that's better than nothing :)

DHCP failover is a relatively complex problem if you want to be sure you never have duplicate addresses and can always renew. I've come up with various ways to make it better but never have the time to do anything about it.

So, it seems to be OK, a load of people use it but have a good play with it first so you get used to how it behaves. Then at least if it all breaks you have some idea of what is going on.

Subject: using of DHCP Failover Protocol

Hello,

Infoblox told in 2007, that they have made significant improvements to ISC dhcpd regarding DHCPFO protocol (draft-ietf-dhc-failover-12).

You can read this here:
http://www.lex.com.gr/downloads2/InfoBlox/SolutionNote_DHCP%20failover%20and%20Infoblox.pdf

* My first question is, did ISC fix this issues as well?

I'm a little scared about using dhcpfo in production environemnt because of the big number of states and handling of them in case of error....
It seems that the setup is quit simple, but the handling is really complex.

* So, my second question is, has someone experiences with ISC dhcpfo, are there anywhere good documentation for handling?
* And can anyone recommend or has anyone bad experiences with this implementation?

Thanks a lot
Meike
