Yup. A while back we had a useful presentation on "How a modern router
actually works", and it seemed to me that it should be "required reading"
for many IETF participants; there are still a large number of people who
seem to view a modern router as simply being a larger version of a Cisco
2501.

I don't think the execution is relevant when it was obviously a bad idea in
the first place.
This is like putting rabid weasels in your pants, and later expressing
regret at having chosen those particular rabid weasels and that pair of
pants.
