(there's tons of similar messages in syslog for various groups and all the
IDX-files for those groups seem to have similar big sizes)

...certainly something wrong in there as I doubt the index files for
various newsgroups would be something like four gigs in size :)

The software version I upgraded to is inn-STABLE-20000907 ...

The DAT file is included as pine attchment (note however that makehistory
was still running when I copied the DAT file for this mail).
