Fix hisv6_replace so that it actually works.  Open the history file in
r+ mode rather than a mode, since otherwise we can't write to arbitrary
locations in the file.  Fix the length check for the new line, and 
space-fill the new line at the right offset.  Patch from Chris Caputo.
