greetings to everybody interested to this thread (or not, of course)

Chee, if you want to read some more, maybe you can try the section2 of the
inn-faq, where I found something interesting

After some snooping and log tracing, I had to observe the following:

1) in any session start, cant gethostbyaddr 111.222.333.444 or the like

2) assuming my server FQDN to be myserver.domain.com, I found a seemingly
concrete reason for the 441 435 Bad Message ID
that I have in response when posting with outlook express (posting with netscape
and with free-agent seems to work, but the server doesn't produce the msgids
anyway). The reason is that on the news.notice, the message header is presented
like that

<8ne473$5t5$2 at myserver.>

and not like that

<8ne473$5t5$2 at myserver.domain.com>

I checked on the os (solaris 2.7) that the domainname command was giving the
correct info, and it was.

I am not sure if the following has impact on the problem: while the hostname is
"goofy", say, there is an alias on the dns (news.domain.com),
and my peer contacts me with this alias (and with IP).

The only hint I exploded was about editing some lines in the getfqdn.c in the
source distribution tarball, but
1) I don't know if it can help, because it could be a more trivial problem (I
hope :-| ), involving something on the machine config and the inn.conf settings.

2) the troubleshooting dates 1994, about inn1.x, and I don't know if it applies
to me.

Any suggestion welcome
Thanks in advance and greetings from Rome
Mauro
