History out of sync

I have a couple of news servers running INN 2.2.1 with CNFS. I believe the
history database on both these servers is out of sync with the contents of the
buffers. When I run cnfsstat -a on either machine I get a great long list of the
following message:

  (Missing <someloadofcharacters at newsgroup.name>)

First question is - could I fix this by rerunning makehistory?
Second question - what would cause this?
