creation of big hierachies

The normal way to do this is by honoring control messages, and you can
configure the news server to mail you automatically when it acts on them
by specifying in control.ctl that they should log to mail.  Alternatively,
you can use actsync (see the man page) and have its output mailed to you.

If you act on control messages, you really want to use PGP.
